June 2 – 6
MORNING 9AM – 12PM

North to Alaska!
How does Alaska's cultural heritage, environment and wildlife compare to Oklahoma's? Come find out! Participants will make an alphabet book to document the many differences between these two states.

Be a Great Plains Jr. Artist
Do you love making art? Well then, you’ll love this class! Watercolors, pastels, drawing, painting and weaving! Something new each day and every week!

Art-i-Fact Art
Using the Museum’s large collection of beautiful American Indian artifacts such as beaded gourd rattles, moccasins, hide paintings, shields, and parfleche, participants in this class will learn to design and construct their own replicas and create new interpretations as well!

The Other Native Americans
Who were the "other Native Americans"? Come find out!

Buffalo Soldiers, The Early Years
Come learn all about the Buffalo Soldiers in this class with re-enactor Wallace C. Moore, Jr. Lots of fun and learning activities!

Plains Indians, “The Plains Indians Were NOT Plain!” Get ready for a fun-filled week of stories, games, dancing, art, museum exhibits, and more as we learn about the Plains Indians’ way of life, both yesterday and today. The week will culminate with a Pow Wow!

Mexican Culture of the Great Plains
Why has there been a Mexican flag flying at the Museum of the Great Plains? Because the Great Plains stretches all the way from Mexico to Canada! Explore the Great Plains’ Mexican heritage through songs, dance, food and language.

Celebrate Oklahoma!
On November 16, 2007 Oklahoma celebrated its 100th birthday!! Come learn how Oklahoma was settled and sample life on the prairie in the early 1900s.

Cowboys and Cowgirls - Calling all Cowboys and Cowgirls!
Come experience the excitement and adventure of the Old West through dramatic play, storytelling, songs, dancing, art, museum exhibits, and more! Buckaroos will learn about the clothing, equipment, work, and lifestyle of cowboys and cowgirls both yesterday and today! The week will culminate with a simulated campfire – “Cowboy and Cowgirl” style!

Art of the Americas – American Indian Art
Wouldn’t you like to make some of the American Indian treasures? Well, come join us in making dream catchers, rain sticks, rattles and so much more!

American Indian Arts and Crafts: the everyday made beautiful
American Indians took much time to embellish their world and make it beautiful. Come see examples of this in the Museum’s gallery and learn how you can also make the everyday beautiful!

One-room Schoolhouse Days (1943)
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to go to school in a one-room schoolhouse where several grade levels were taught together? Tom Spears will take you back to a time when older students were relied upon to help teach the younger ones. You’ll also learn the songs and games children played.

What do George Washington Carver, peanuts and Oklahoma all have in common? Come find out in an exciting week filled with stories, dramatic play, songs, dancing, art, cooking, museum exhibits, and more! Don’t miss making and playing with peanut butter play dough or planting your own peanut seeds and watching them grow!

Archaeology
Would you like to know more about the work and discoveries of archaeologists? Then, this class is for you! Come excavate and record your very own discoveries!

Come learn about puppets and make your own from different materials from different books with an emphasis on the books by Jan Brett. We’ll also write scripts and perform short plays!!

Life on the Prairie
Enjoy learning about life on the prairie. We will play with toys and make some. We will eat food that the children enjoyed and helped prepare. We will learn about the prairie animals that the children saw such as, buffalo, prairie dogs, coyotes, etc. We will paint wildflowers that you see on the prairie. Much more! Come and join the fun!
