Bidding for the Town Lots in Lawton

Many people bought land.  The land sold for the highest price ever recorded in the United States at that time.

The town site was divided into lots.

Then the bidding took place.

Sale of town lots at Lawton

People had to put $25.00 down to be able to bid for a lot.  What if your bid won?  Then you had 30 minutes to pay the rest of the money for the lot.   If you did not pay off the balance that you owed, then you lost your $25.00.
